Dreams, Spears and Sewing Needles

Where do great ideas come from? Wouldn’t we all like to know. Then we could just go there, knock nicely and collect a nice big fat one. Of course ideas are usually very difficult to locate and most inconvenient – popping up when you least expect and being nowhere to be found when you really really need one.
It is often said that the best ideas happen on the loo or in the bath and although this surprises us it really shouldn’t. Because ideas are not the product of concentrated periods of focused thinking, they are products of concentrated periods of focused thinking followed by a break. Followed by time out, to wander, to switch off, to escape and to dream. To get enough distance from our problem and escape into our deliciously aimless subconscious where stuff really gets sorted.
So a very short animation about the invention of the sewing machine to prove a point well made by physiatrists, neurologists, pub landlords and a certain chocolate brand. Take a break. Good will come.
P.S. Thank for the animation Stephen Brandt. Sorry for the continued use of the word ‘savage’ in this film. It was the old days.
