Saying vs. Doing – One Man. One Button.

Love this story. A man called Tony Fuller who lives in a village in Dorset has been trying, along with other villagers, to reroute heavy lorry traffic so it bypasses the small village. The villagers argue that the pollution and noise from heavy vechicals is dangerous and is destroying their community but dispite writing ’100s of letters’ over the last 8 years no notice has been taken by the authorities. Until now that is. Tony has decided to spend one hour a week pressing the button on the pedistrian crossing to walk back and forth across the high street carrying his protest placard and wearing a mask. Traffic is obviously now regularly queuing up to watch him cross the road as are the media. On the radio yesterday he said ‘writing letters don’t work. So the only thing to do is action. And i will keep doing this every week until something gets done.’ Fellow villagers have now decided to join him taking ‘button pressing shifts’ in the hope that their action is finally met with action from their council. Watch this space.

I LOVE this.
It reminds me of Bella’s post about the leaky pavement earlier in the month. http://www.eatbigfish.com/theblog/build-bridge
Such simple actions with such clear messages.
