A glaringly obvious blank canvas

By Brett Donahay, 29/03/2010

As part of London’s 2012 Cultural Olympian project, ‘Artists Taking the Lead’ around 40 bus shelters throughout London will have the normally blank top side of the  shelter adorned with LED screens to display art and games submitted by the pubic and a selection of London artists.

These ‘blank canvases’ will enable bus travellers to do everything from displaying  their own creativity, play games (fingers crossed for Double Dragon) or even doing something unheard of in London… talk to each other.

Once the project is up and running, you will be able to submit  your ideas via  the website and/or a mobile apps. Using these toolkits, you’ll can let your creativity and wit go nuts and create images, prose or animations for display on the panels on your way to work.

Here’s to ‘Artists Taking the Lead’… for spotting a glaringly obvious blank canvas and using it to brighten up the day of a commuting weary public and have then enabling them to engage with the campaign in a really fun way.

This is also a great way to get more people to use the top of the bus, leaving the lower deck freer for the less mobile.
