Er… house red please.

Saw this in my local Co-op the other day. Wine is often perceived as pretentious category and one that certainly has a high barrier of accessibility for consumers – varying regions, vintage or non-vintage, dry or sweet and then there’s the descriptive terms; balanced, bright, delicate, polished, mellow, compact etc.  And then there’s the ‘what wine goes best with which meal’ issue. It can all get a bit confusing really.

So here we have House Wine a company completely knocking down those barriers of entry and removing those layers of complexity by simply telling it like it is. No fancy names, little regard for provinence or heritage, no fancy descriptive terms, just ‘Steak House’ – I’m good with Steak and I’m affordable. They also do a white called ‘Fish House’.

Haven’t tried it yet so unsure if it’s any good but a nice new approach and for that I’m willing to give it a go. Cool label too.
