Suck it up
By Bella Acton, 15/03/2010
This isn’t exactly hot off the press, but it’s worth mentioning here as we talk about new media. And try to profess that new media doesn’t mean Twitter, Foursquare or designing a hot app; instead it can be a new use of media. A media that may in fact be old, or only new in the way it is used. This Electrolux banner wrapped around a scaffolding site in Denmark screams suction louder than any promises of engine power. Scaffolding as media? It’s always been there. Why wouldn’t we use it?
Another couple of examples that achieve a similar sort of impact. Rejoice Conditioner created a giant comb and intertwined it among all the millions of power lines in Bangkok. Detangler? I get it.
Lastly, what could ward me off drunk driving more than a parking space reserved in front of a tree?
While these are all very clever and demand to be noticed; the fact is that they are not expensive to make or hard to do. Anything can be a medium for us to display our message. What in the world around us is a canvas in the making? What is the most pertinent to what we, as a brand offer?

For the next week they have decked out the Paris’ St. Lazare, Concorde & Champs-Elysées Clémenceau Metros…
